GASTRIC RESTRICTIVE PROCEDURES*

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAP-BAND)

* Restrictive procedures decrease food intake

  • A band is placed around the upper most part of the stomach separating the stomach into one small and one large portion
  • Band can be adjusted to increase or decrease restriction
  • Surgery can be reversed
  • Digestion and absorption is normal

The adjustable silicone band limits food consumption and creates an earlier feeling of fullness. The band is inflatable and connected to an access port placed close to the skin that allows surgeons to adjust the system to meet individual patient needs.
