In April 1997, the most advanced specialized Endosurgery Center in the Northeast opened at UMass Medical Center. This unique educational center is equipped for the innovation, application, and demonstration of all forms of advanced minimally invasive surgery. All divisions within the Department of Surgery participate. In 1999 the UMASS EndoSurgery Center was recognized by United States Surgical Corporation as a Center of Excellence.	click screen to play video

	Telemedicine and electronic distance learning are central components of the Endosurgery Center. The UMass EndoSurgery Center Conference Room is equipped with state-of-the-art telemedia capabilities to include fiberoptic transmission, satellite up-link and downlink, and digital audio-visual conferencing. In addition to disseminating education and new technological advances regionally, these advanced telecommunication capabilities permit participation in surgery conferences nationally and internationally.
